Live Internet TV - A Reality
GP Bullhound reports on P2P technologies being deployed
09 April 2008
"While the Internet TV market has been focusing on developing on-demand video platforms, we believe that the market for live video streaming is potentially much larger and of more interest and appeal to computer users," said Grant Warrell, Director of GP Bullhound. "Live content creates valuable shared experiences and usually represents premium content, making it a key source of revenues for broadcasters.By bringing people together at the same time, live content also creates formidable new opportunities for audience interactivity when delivered on the Internet."
Internet 2.0 has given television viewers a popular alternative channel to watch video content. Large numbers of Internet TV users are now looking to the Internet as a way of viewing highly popular live TV genres such as sports, reality TV, news and concert events. The sheer volume of the demand created by large simultaneous audiences threatens to massively exceed the capacity of the Internet. The only solution currently available requires two arch rivals – content rights owners and Peer-to-Peer (P2P) technology providers – to come together and bring ‘live’ to the Internet.
